There are many great reasons for owning your own home. Here are a few:
You'll have a place that you know is yours.
One of our basic human needs is the need of security. Being a homeowner will help you to know that you are no longer at the mercy of a landlord. You will have a place that you can take pride in.
For your children
Instead of having to go to a park, imagine a scene of you sipping iced-tea on your own deck as your children are playing in your very own back yard.
Build up Equity.
Real Estate has been and is one of the safest investments in our country. It's an asset that appreciates, usually year after year. Of course, there is no guarantee that this will continue. However, ask your friends how much they paid for their home 5 or 10 years ago and then compare that to what that home is selling for today.
Rents go up year after year
How much will you be paying in rent five years from now? How about in 10 years? If you get a fixed rate mortgage, your payment will never go up. (Property taxes, homeowner's insurance and monthly association fees for condos may go up.)
Tax deductions
The interest on your mortgage and the property taxes are a tax deduction. Your rent payment is not!
